Gilemale Village set at the meeting point of Kalu and Raththuru Rivers located at the feet of the rarely explored western side of the Sri Pada (Adam's Peak). One of the very few lefts 300 years old mansion sits next to the ancient Sri Rankoth Viharaya site which leads to one of the path to Sri Pada. One famous stone inscription in Gilimale or the ‘Gilimale Sellipiya’ can also be found at the temple premises today. It is said that one of the palace’s of King Nissankamalla, who ruled Polonnaruwa is also situated in close proximity to the ancient Viharaya.
