Day 1 (D)
Upon arrival around 4-6 pm to the government hostel, proceed to your check in then take a time for you to rest before the diner (if the weather and the arrival schedule isn’t too late), let’s enjoy a sunset on a a remote reservoir where local goes for fishing, swimming). After your local diner, you will be free and easy to rest and prepare your small backpack for the next 2 nights).
Day 2 (B-PNL-D)
Early wake and after a quick coffee, at 5.30am, get on the road for about 30 min ride to reach one of the Veddah village where we meet one of the last Chief Veddah who guide us all along during this next 24hrs. We start today 16KM trek into pure wilderness at first passing by the veddah villages and encounter its habitants, cross over their farm land, before venturing into very narrow trail which will almost disappear into the secondary then primary bushes and grassland where we will walk aside an astonishing mountain perfectly & naturally shape. On the way, open your eyes as multiples birds can be spots, elephants, spotted deers, wildboar are only example. After 6-8hrs walks you will reach a perfect ridge with grassland and Ayurvedah wild trees on one side & a view overlooking 50KM of jungles and reservoir on the other side, and a bit in the interior about 200meter away from the ridge multiple boulders have been create cave formation where Veddah community originally was staying before they move back. This place offer a very small stream of pure fresh water for light shower as well as drinking water reloading. Set your tent and the mobile camp before take the sun down to walk around the grassland and the ayurvedha trees with one of your guide to pot some birds, monkeys and others species until the wooden fire made purely local dinner will be served. After dinner, share sometime with the native discussing or goes on the ridge (if the weather permitted) to observe a pure clean sky cover of stars. During the night, help the guide to keep the fires alive to keep away wildlife could be in the area. “Be aware this is a pure camping experience, no toilet and shower has been set up”, we will show you where you can take care of you.
Day 3 (B-L-D)
Wake up for the sunrise and get some of the best view Sri Lanka could offer with it myst, magical sky colors and the sound of the wild waking up as elephant growling monkey chatting, birds singing until you get to enjoy a local breakfast. We depart today for 8KM, up-hill first for 2KM, then walking through other grassland before downhill back to the Veddah Village, this second day trek bring you into pure primary bushes where we can spotted Elephant dung, leopard poop as well as sloth bear foot prints. At your arrival at the Veddah Chief House a local Veddah delicacies lunch will be offer you to eat, before we get back on the road to the government hostel for you to take a nap and a shower/toilet before by 3pm we get back on the road again to the Wadinagala Reservoir for 2-3 hrs on a sunset boat cruise for birds & wildlife watching, pure paradise especially at those hours of the day to spot multiple birds as pelican, black cormorant and with a little luck you could spot elephants swimming between islands or bathing at the lake’s edge. We will ride the boat all the way to the camp site located at the heart of the Gal Oya National park (if the water level is too low, we will get back to the boat jetty then goes to the camp site via 4x4 jeep about 45 min ride)
At your arrival at the camp side, set up your tent before enjoy a local dinner in the wild of Gal Oya National Park with its wildlife sound intensify upon the night move on. “Be aware this is a pure camping experience, no toilet and shower has been set up”, we will show you where you can take care of you
Day 4 (B)
An early morning start as by 5:30am we jump into our 4x4 jeep to ride the park dusty road for 3-4hrs sunrise jeep ride into the Gal Oya National Park for you get more opportunity to spot the morning wildlife as elephant, fox, chacal, grey langgur … as well as multiple birds species and get lucky to appreciate the sunrise and a very specific sceneries which only Gal Oya National Park offer. We will be back to the camp side for breakfast and pack up before we head to the entrance of the national park the government hostel for a shower and toilet before depart for the next destination.
